If you are wanting to learn to play drums the first step will be beginner drum lessons. Although this may sound like a simple step, there are a few things you will need to know before you begin. First, what type of drums do you want to play. There are several types of drums.  Two examples are the snare drum and the bongo drum. These both may be drums, but the way you play them is entirely different.

You will also need to decide if you are going to take lessons from someone in person, or if you would like to take lessons online. Both are entirely acceptable ways to learn to play drums, it just depends on your preference.

Usually beginner drum lessons will teach the basics. Drum beats, correct form and reading the music are usually incorporated into the lessons. Playing the drums takes coordination, so you also learn to use different parts of the body simultaneously. This in itself takes practice and coordination. But without the basics you will not have the skills to proceed with the harder lessons.

When you are learning to play any instrument it is important to build a good foundation. Then you can learn the harder lessons with confidence.
